The reference I found to the book on the web listed it under "lupus", and I strongly remember it--clearly, this one needs some investigation! Its about the life of her male siamese cat. I'm not sure if her version had the man on a farm or not, though. I think he slit it with a sled or a skate or something. The main character was an alien on a planet that was not where he was from but was inhabited by another type of alien. Finding and locating specific numbers and marking them with toy animals.

Hi - I was the one who originally posted this book - sorry to say, I ordered 13 is Too Young To Die and read it today, and this is not the correct book. "13" is about a teen who has a brain tumor. It is possible to use sections of the book effectively in this case. Soon many others are swayed to Nathan's defense as he calls a radio talk show and tells his side. One of the readers who has read most of the series says Brown seems to write each story around an issue, which unfortunately sometimes becomes more important than the story.

They were darker and I seem to remember them as being a lot of very fine lines, perhaps very heavy shading. They quickly learn, however, to always expect the unexpected. If the poster uses the search phrase "Dick Bruna De Appel" s/he can find pictures of the cover using Google's image search and see if it matches. (De Appel is the original name of the book.) I think there's also another about the same apple called "The Happy Apple" but I'm not sure.
